A man who says he is nothing but a peaceful protest organizer hid behind dozens of people in his Hell’s Kitchen apartment for hours as officers attempted to execute an arrest warrant Saturday morning.
According to NBC New York, Derrick Ingram is accused of assaulting an officer during a June Black Lives Matter protest. Ingram was seen yelling into a megaphone into an officer’s ear at a close distance. The accused even live-streamed his actions.
The officer claims the incident caused, “pain and protracted impairment of hearing.”
NYPD showed up to Ingram’s home with armored vehicles and some officers in full riot gear to serve the warrant.
During the attempted arrest, it was found the incorrect warrant had been issued. The time it took to get a corrected warrant allowed protesters to surround and create a human wall around the apartment.
Eventually, Ingram created a march to the nearby precedent, where he turned himself in peacefully.
Ingram has now be formally charged.
