As Minneapolis moves closer to defunding the police, three city council members are taking actions that run counter to their policies.

Three city council members who have voted in favor of defunding the police are spending roughly $4,500 of taxpayer money a day to hire private security after they received death threats.

According to Fox News, the city has spent roughly $63,000 over the last three weeks for three council members.

On Friday, the city moved forward with a plan to eliminate the city’s police force and install a holisitic and public-health oriented service.

Normally, the Minneapolis Police Department would provide security to those council members, but MPD says it does not have any record of threats towards those three council members.

A city official said the funding for the private security was temporary.

Security expenses do not need city council approval unless the amount surpasses $175,000.
