An Ohio man who murdered his ex-girlfriend had his sentencing hearing interrupted after two of the woman’s sons attempted to attack him.
After Dale Williams confessed to the 2017 killing of Elizabeth Pledger-Stewart, he entered the courtroom on Thursday expecting to get his sentence.
However, two of the victim’s enraged sons lost their composure during the family’s victim impact statements and charged Williams, causing chaos in the Mahoning County Courthouse.
According to WKBN, one son was tased and both were arrested.
“Our deputies there intervened. We had extra officers in the courtroom to begin with,” Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene said. “I’m sure they knew that there were some tensions with this sentencing hearing. From everything I can see, the officers acted appropriately. In fact, did a pretty good job, in my opinion.”
The two sons are being held on contempt charges, with further charges considered likely. The sentencing has been rescheduled.
